Carter, Dorothy P, age 96, died January 8, 2014 in Shelby Township, Michigan. Beloved wife of the late Bernard. Dorothy Patricia Lumley married Bernard Carter of East Detroit, in 1941. She worked as a dental assistant prior to having her daughter Cheri. Dorothy liked to travel and enjoyed a cruise to Hawaii with her husband Bernie. She also joined her niece on a business trip to Tucson, Arizona and visited family while there. She enjoyed visiting her sisters Helen, locally and Viola in Sault Ste. Marie. She took pride in her appearance and loved all the compliments she received, especially in her later years. She certainly didn't look 96! She loved doing crossword puzzles and was quite adept at them. She was also a voracious reader and kept a log of all the books she had read, along with her personal reviews of them. She was a feisty lady with strong opinions and kept up with world events. Her health deteriorated quickly the past six months and she was totally ready to leave and be with Bernie and Cheri. This was actually a blessing. Dear mother of the late Cheryl Stec. Survived by granddaughter, Amy Stec; nieces and nephew: Linda Scope, Janice Carter, and Roger Lumley. Preceded in death by: Clarence Lumley, Viola Lumley, and Helen Ritzert. Family will receive friends at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road 3 bks east of Van Dyke Utica, Sunday from 3:00pm until time of 6:00pm service. Memorials appreciated to Macomb Humane Society.
