February 8, 1926 — August 24, 2014

Dorothea "Dorothy" Gavron, age 88, a resident of Bloomfield Hills, passed away August 24, 2014 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac. She was born February 8, 1926 in Detroit to the late Frank and Pauline Krzyzanowski. Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of Cass Tech High School. She achieved an associate's degree in nursing and proudly worked at Holy Cross Hospital in Detroit for 29 years. She and her husband, Stephen Gavron, moved from Detroit to Oscoda in August 1981. She continued her career in nursing at Iosco Medical Care Facility until her retirement in May 1988. Dorothy also was an active volunteer in multiple community programs and her hobbies included crocheting, playing Bingo and doing crossword puzzles. Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Stephen Gavron for 40 years; the couple married May 21, 1949 in Bowling Green, Ohio; good friend and companion to the late William Pascoe; loving mother of Gary JoAnn Gavron, Nancy Buckley, Donna Dennis Markiewicz, Philip Diane Gavron, Jane Bill Rudd and Laura Gavron; proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and dear sister of Helen Keller, Florence Sidge, the late Stella Lamb, Walter, Fred and Frank Krzyzanowski. There will be a memorial visitation Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service 11 a.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Road 4 blocks E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Dorothy was devoted to St. Jude, so the family suggests contributions in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the American Red Cross or Alzheimer's Association.
