Funeral services for life long Weston County resident Donald W. Mitich, 85, will be held at 10:00 am Monday, October 27th at The Country Church at Four Corners, Wyoming with Pastors Bill Haley and Charles Dutcher officiating. Burial will follow at the Boyd Cemetery near Four Corners with military graveside rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2516 of Newcastle. A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, October 26th at Worden Chapel. Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle are in charge of the arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Weston County Health Services Foundation.
Mr. Mitich died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Weston County Health Services following a lengthy illness.
Donald was born June 24, 1923 at Lead, South Dakota, the son of Weston County, Wyoming pioneers Nick Z. and Anjella Podlaszewska Mitich. During World War II he served in the U. S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. He was proud of the fact that he fought at Iwo Jima where he received a Purple Heart.
On November 14, 1948 he married Rose Mary Zink at Newcastle. They made their home on a ranch north of Newcastle where he resided until his death.
He was a member of Newcastle Masonic Lodge #13, A.F. & A. M., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2516 of Newcastle, Wyoming.
Survivors include his wife of Newcastle, daughters Cathryn Jones and Susan Price of Halfway, MO; son Donald "Joe" Marty Mitich of Newcastle; brothers Alex Judy Mitich of Lander, WY, Millard Mitich of Newcastle and Marvin Ruth Mitich of Casper, WY; sister Violet "Vi" Lunney of Newcastle; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Larry, Melvin and Tom Mitich; sisters Mabel Mitich and Betty Murray and daughters Vicky Finkbeiner and Sharon Barker.
