Funeral services for Delmer R. Ellis, 89, will be held at 10:00 am Monday, July 9th at First Baptist Church in Upton with Rev. Randy Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in the Upton Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. The family requests memorial contributions towards Treasured Memories Hospice.
Mr. Ellis died Thursday, July 5th at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.
Delmer was born March 19, 1918 on the family homestead West of Thornton, Wyoming the son of Harry and Hattie M. Owens Ellis. He married Ola Vinzant at Custer, South Dakota on December 6, 1937. The couple celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary prior to Ola?s death in 2005. Delmer worked as a heavy equipment operator at Federal Bentonite for 33 years. He was instrumental in bringing union wages into the local area and was union steward for many years. He was a good hunter, raising his family on countless deer, 23 elk, 5 moose and one bear. Mr. Ellis also loved music. His hobby was ranching and he was a cowboy at heart.
Surviving him are his four children, James Ellis of Brighton, CO, Neoma Sutherland of Osage, WY, William Ellis of Las Vegas, NV, and Viola Butler of Grantsville, UT. Also surviving are one sister, Marie Jorgensen of Sheridan, Wyoming; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 2 great?great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his wife Ola in 2005, 6 brothers, Lawrence, Hubert, Merle, Joe, Floyd and Raymond; and 1 sister Fern Hubbell.
