Daniel Kolad

July 17, 1947 — June 14, 2012

Daniel was born July 17, 1947 to Bertha and Sylvester Kolad in Detroit. He died there June 14, 2012 at approximately 5 a.m. He was 64 years old. He served in Vietnam 1970-71 and was seriously injured in an automobile accident in 1976. He spent his last months in hospice at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, where he was well cared for by a dedicated staff of nurses and assistants. Although he had been ill for many years he kept up his spirit to survive and felt "lucky to be here", and when he knew that his time to leave was coming he courageously accepted that also. On our daily visits we would watch old movies when he was able and near the end he enjoyed the gospel music of Elvis Presley he really did!. He was truly a unique individual and was dear to his family and many who had a relationship with him during his years at Hamilton Home in Detroit. He is survived by his sister, Beth Robert Hyde, and nephew Dylan who are grateful for the care he has received through the years. Special thanks to Chaplain O'Reilly for seeing that his spiritual needs also were met. A memorial luncheon will be held at Hamilton Home, 590 E. Grand Blvd, Detroit, Friday, July 13, 2012 from 11 am to 1 pm. Inurnment 11 am Saturday, July 14, 2012, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Detroit. Donations may be made to Gleaners Hunger Free Summer Program, P.O. Box 1380 Troy, MI 48099 www.hungerfreesummer.org.
