Daisy Shantry

December 11, 1918 — July 3, 2009

Daisy E. Shantry, age 90, an 11-year resident of Caseville, formerly a 60-year resident of Oakland County, died July 3, 2009 in Bad Axe. She was born December 11, 1918 in Detroit. Mrs. Shantry worked at Town Valet Cleaners for many years. She was an accomplished seamstress, renowned for Raggedy Ann dolls. She was a former member of Prince of Glory Lutheran Church in Madison Heights and attended a Methodist church in Caseville. She is survived by her children, Edgar Rita Shantry of Caseville, Patricia Rich Hirsch Shafer of Royal Oak and David Sherry Shantry of Gaylord; 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Walter Shantry, on April 3, 1972. The couple were married on June 1, 1935 in Detroit; her children, Robert and Nancy Shantry; and parents, William and May Kendall. Visitation will be Wednesday 2-8 p.m. and service Thursday 11 a.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. The burial will take place at Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak. Memorials to the Fowler Center Mayville, MI, Alzheimer's Association or a local food bank appreciated.
