Cora Johnson, 90, died at Newcastle, Wyoming on December 19, 2006.
She was born August 11, 1916 to Grace and Ernest Bickford at Staples, Minnesota. Sometime in 1918 the family homesteaded near Ft. Yates, ND. Cora and four sisters and five brothers attended school in Ft. Yates, on the Standing Rock Reservation.
Cora married Orville Ternary in 1931. Three children were born to this marriage, Jim, Ronnie, and Leora. Cora and Chester Johnson were married at Newcastle in 1947. Chester worked in the oil fields and Cora waited tables in local restaurants for many years. She also worked laundry at the hospital on Mondell Hill.
After ?retiring? Cora and Chester raised sheep and some cattle at a place in Red Bird Canyon and later they bought the Scott place on Dewey Road near Elk Mountain.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and four brothers, son Ronnie at one year old, husband Chester in 2000 and two grandsons.
Cora is survived by a brother Harlan Ruth Bickford of Newcastle; a son Jim Mary Trenary of Rapid City. A daughter Leora Roy Lantz of Sun City, CA; Cora is also survived by four granddaughters, four grandsons, ten great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren; two nephews and five nieces.
Cora's children, grandchildren, great grand children were her greatest interest in life. She enjoyed her many friends.. Her church and faith were a very important part of her life. The senior center was equally important to her. Her 90th birthday was celebrated there and she never missed a dance!
Memorial services will be Tuesday, December 26th at 2:00 pm at Weston County Senior Center in Newcastle.
