Charles F. "Mr. Chuck" Murray, age 98, a resident of Berkley, died December 9, 2010 at Cambridge North Healthcare Center in Clawson. He was born September 10, 1912 in Detroit to the late Joseph and Anna Murray. Mr. Murray worked for Chrysler Automotive and Gabriel Steel Company as a welder. He was known as "Mr. Chuck" while he worked with the Archdiocese of Detroit Schools at Holy Name Catholic Church in Birmingham, St. Dennis Catholic Church in Royal Oak, Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in Berkley, Catholic Central in Detroit and National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak in school maintenance. He was a member at Our Lady of LaSalette and the Knights of Columbus - Bishop Gallagher Council. He enjoyed being an usher at church, and playing Santa for the K of C and the different schools. He was also a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps of Northern Michigan. Mr. Murray was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and had been invited to try out as a pitcher for the Tigers. He enjoyed bowling, was an excellent pool player and love playing cards, especially Bridge. He loved to be with children, and even coached his daughters' softball team and was nicknamed "Sparky". He is survived by his children, Marlene C. Murray of Colorado Springs, CO, Paul C. Murray of Cripple Creek, CO, Marieda A. Lewis Bishop of Berkley, Dianne Lester Deel of Southfield and Lynnelle William Powell of Ostrander, OH; brother, Carl Anne Murray of Las Vegas, NV; nieces, Marion and Ann Cenci; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verlaine M. Gaul Murray, on April 12, 1994; the couple married February 18, 1939 at Holy Rosary in Detroit. The visitation will be Sunday 2-8 p.m. with a Rosary, Sunday 7:00 p.m., at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mr. Murray will lie in state Monday 1 p.m. until the time of Mass 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church in Berkley. Entombment will be at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley.
