Celina J. Casteels
Celina Joanna Casteels, 88, a resident of Macomb Township since 2000, died September 30, 2011 at her home. She was born on July 15, 1923, in Mechelen, Belgium.
Prior to coming to America, Mrs. Casteels was a visiting Pediatric nurse for almost 20 years, in the town where she grew up. She lived in Utica for 38 years before moving to Macomb Township with her daughter and son-in-law. She did charity work for years at the Father Taillieu residence and was the treasurer of the Father Taillieu Guild. Celina enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, she will be greatly missed. She was an active member of St. Lawrence Parish. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Casteels Karafa and son-in-law, Charles William Karafa III. She is also survived by her sisters: Maria Biesemans, Justina Janssens, Gaby Leenders and Godelieve Vlummens, as well as, brother-in-law, Jos Vlummens, sister-in-law, Rosa Verbist, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 3rd at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 44633 Utica Road, Utica. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
Visitation will be prior to the funeral mass at St. Lawrence Church, beginning at 9 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Father Solanus Capuchin Soup Kitchen or St. Lawrence Church.
