Cecilia Lewinski

LEWINSKI, Cecilia M. age 77, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Evangelical Nursing Home, Sterling Heights. She was born in Detroit, Michigan; on July 4, 1936, and the oldest child of the late Barbara and Albert Schulte. Loving mother of John Karen Lewinski of Macomb Township. Proud grandmother of Leann. Dear sister of Al Gloria Schulte, Bill Sue Schulte, George Rose Schulte, and Barbara Johnson. Beloved friend of Joan Kramer. Some wonderful memories her family has is Cecilia sharing that her mother worked very hard raising her five children while keeping a spotless house and cooking wonderful meals every night. Her dad immigrated from Germany when he was twenty one. In Germany, he learned his trade as a sausage maker and continued in that capacity in America until his retirement. Cecilia remembers the family vacations at the cottage in Oscoda that were shared with two families of cousins in adjoining cabins. She lived her early life in Detroit and eventually moved to her house in Warren, then to her condo in Clinton Township. Cecilia also wintered in Mesa, Arizona for several years. She attended Guardian Angels grad school in Detroit and graduated from Dominican high school. She went on to receive a teaching degree and eventually received a Master's Degree in education. She taught in several schools in Detroit, public and catholic. She retired after teaching for many years in the Warren Woods School District. Cecilia played the piano and loved singing. She once appeared on television on a talent show and performed with many groups in the area singing in nursing homes, senior centers, and parties. Cecilia loved to travel and has been all over Europe and the far East. She enjoyed her vegetable garden and tending to her flowers at her home in Warren. She enjoyed playing cards at the various senior centers around the area, crossword puzzles, and playing bingo. She will be truly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Road 3 blocks east of Van Dyke Utica. Monday she will lie in state at 10:30 am until time of funeral mass at 11:00 am. at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Road, Clinton Township. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, Michigan. Memorial contributions appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
