Carol Huddy

December 12, 1939 — April 27, 2013

Atwood Huddy, Carol Beatrice, born December 17, 1939, passed away peacefully April 27, 2013. She grew up in Royal Oak and Rochester, graduating from Avondale High class of 1958, then attended MSU. Her school years were some of her happiest. A good student and member of the National Honor Society, she loved cheerleading and school events. Friends recall that all the homecoming floats were made at the Atwood home. Following MSU, Carol returned to Oakland County and worked as an executive secretary for Millsmith and Midwestern. She was active in the area Business and Professional Women's Club, serving a term as President. Carol enjoyed her work, and the friends she made there. Carol volunteered for several years with at-risk teens, giving them support and love they needed. She had several beloved dogs throughout her life, and dog sat gladly for all the family dogs, who adored her. All the family dogs and cats received Christmas presents too. Carol was also an ardent rose gardener, and many were the beneficiaries of her lovely bouquets. Carol was always very close to her parents, Beatrice and Alfred, and being with family was a true joy for her. The log cabin 'Up North' was a little bit of heaven on earth for Carol and all the Atwood family. Carol and Phil were married by the lake, with family in attendance. The few other cottages around the Atwood place are friends of many years, some now in the third generation of the original families who built their cottages along with Bea and Al. All were loved by Carol, and she by them throughout the years. Carol was adopted by the whole Smith clan when her sister Bonnie first became a part of the Smith family. Carol started attending the large Thanksgiving reunions and other family gatherings throughout the years when she was a teenager. 'The farm' was also home for Carol, and her nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews loved her visits. Aunt Carol was one of those people who never missed a birthday or anniversary. Everyone wanted to open her present first. She cared, and she remembered. Carol was known by all for her friendliness and warmth. Whether it was her local Meijer greeter, veterinarian, postal carrier or neighbor, Carol took the time to get to know people, learning about their families, pets and life challenges. Her sincere interest and kindness bettered the lives of many, not only family and friends, but countless others who never knew her last name. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, Commander Phillip Huddy, USN, by her parents, Alfred and Beatrice Atwood, and her brother, Jim Atwood. She will be dearly missed by her sister Bonnalyn Atwood Smith, brother-in-law Nick Smith; her nieces and nephews, Juliana Bellinger, Bradley Smith Diane, Elizabeth Burnette Fred, Stacia Lyon Paul, and great nieces and nephews, as well as her many devoted friends. Visitation for friends and family will be Friday 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m., at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Rd. 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Sunday burial with committal will be at 1:30 p.m. at Somerset Congregational Church Cemetery, 10449 N Somerset Rd., Somerset, MI 49281. Share your memories at www.sullivanfuneraldirectors.com.
