Carlous Lyndon Childs, 80, of Upton, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the V.A. Medical Center, Fort Meade, South Dakota following a lengthy illness.
Lyndon was born January 31, 1927 at the Deep Creek Childs homestead in Weston County, Wyoming to Clifford E. and Ida Kuemmerle Childs. He grew up on the Deep Creek ranch and was educated at several country schools in the area including Upton Elementary. He boarded in town while attending Upton High School and had fond memories of playing football.
After graduating from High School he was drafted into the army and served in Panama during WWII. He attended the University of Wyoming and was accepted on the U of W traveling football team. Upon starting his senior year, Lyndon was call back to the 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th division of the 5th Army in the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged from service on September 23, 1951 as a Master Sergeant receiving the Combat Infantry Badge and Korean Service Metal with three bronze service stars.
On January 9, 1952 he married Lydia Jane Rinehart in Rapid City, South Dakota. The couple lived on the Childs and Rinehart family ranches until his death.
Lyndon was a 32nd Degree Mason initiated passed and raised in the Newcastle Masonic Lodge #13, a Past Master of Upton Lodge #38, a member of the Scottish Rite, a member of the Kalif Shrine and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #32.
He was also a member of the Republican Party and a voting Delegate to the National Republican Convention in 1984, a member of Wyoming Farm Bureau and served on the Board of Directors for the State of Wyoming, a member of the Wyoming Stock Growers and served on the Executive Committee and served on the Joint Powers Board of the Weston County Memorial Hospital.
Lyndon enjoyed living and working on the ranch, hunting especially with his black powder rifle, watching football always rooting for the underdog, watching professional bull riding, reading and telling amusing stories. His family will always remember him for the many poems that flowed out of his mouth for every occasion. Some short, some long and some with added versions that would always rhyme.
Most of all he loved his wife and family. He was always there in good times and trying times for each of them. He also enjoyed and stayed in touch with many true friends he met through out the years of his life.
Lyndon leaves to remember and celebrate his life wife, Lydia; children, Louis Childs of Casa Grande, AZ, Linda Childs of Carrollton, Texas, Laura Childs and Dick Stull of Gillette, WY, Larry Childs and wife Alene Holwell of Trinidad, CO and Luann Childs Borgialli and husband Dennis of Wright, WY; grandchildren Deena Borgialli Wolf and husband Alex of Gillette, WY, Jodene Borgialli and fiancé? Christopher Foy of Wright, WY, Wyatt Childs of Fort Hood, TX currently serving in Iraq, Tell Childs of Trinidad, CO.; siblings Joe Childs of Newcastle, WY, Audrey Childs Meyers of Florence, AZ and Esley Childs Holwell of Casper, WY and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Worden Funeral Directors in Newcastle, WY.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Senior Citizens Center in Newcastle, WY with the Pastor Clint Pickrel officiating. Burial will be at the Upton Greenwood Cemetery with Masonic and military honors.
Pallbearers will be Walter Christensen, Wayne Christensen, Mike Finn, Rich Peterson, John Thompson and Jim Wheat.
The family asks that memorial contributions in Lyndon?s name be given for the Upton Ambulance Service or the Shriner?s Crippled Children?s Hospital.
