Betty Zimmel

Betty Jane Zimmel, 90, of Royal Oak, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born March 19, 1918, in Royal Oak. Mrs. Zimmel was a lifelong resident of Royal Oak. She was an active volunteer at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Blair Memorial Library in Clawson and the Troy Nature Center for many years. She was a graduate of St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing and a supervisor on the obstetrics floor at St. Joseph Mercy in Detroit. Mrs. Zimmel also attended First Presbyterian Church in Royal Oak most of her life. Surviving are her husband, Joseph "Bud" Zimmel, whom she married on June 2, 1945; children, Chris Zimmel of Clawson and Kate Brian Abrell of Velpen, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary Brown; siblings, Virginia Bert Brown, Mary Keith Crossman, Josephine Bill Ong and Georgia Hirsch.
