Betty Cowles

October 30, 1939 — December 19, 2020

Betty Fay (Huber) Cowles passed away December 19, 2020 peacefully at her home with her loving family at her side, following a lengthy illness of Pulmonary Fibrosis. Betty was born in Newcastle, WY to Bayard and Ada (Cullum) Huber, and after the passing of her father, she was blessed with Roy Stevens for a stepfather. She was the youngest of five children with siblings, Estell (Bud) Huber, Helen (Huber) Rhoades, Bayard Huber Jr. and Jack Huber. Her first home was in Spotted Horse, WY where she was raised as a youngster and later moved to Newcastle. She recently visited Spotted Horse with her family and shared cherished memories and reminisced her childhood. She married Rock Cowles November 15, 1958 and became a Military wife for the next 20 years. To this union, three children were born. They enjoyed the adventures and journeys the Air Force provided them at Ellsworth AFB Rapid City, Puerto Rico, Grand Forks, ND, Spokane, WA, and finally retiring in Newcastle to settle down and start their second chapter in 1975.She worked at Sears Roebuck, First State Bank and later retired from the Forest Service. Betty’s #1 priority was always her family. She attended every possible school and sporting event of her children and grandchildren. Each and everyone of them were her pride and joy. She was one of the proudest mothers and grandmothers you could ever meet. Betty and Rock had a cabin near Thompson Canyon to where it was known by her grandchildren as “Nanny’s Valley and Papa’s Pond” and to her children as “The Land”. They enjoyed watching the grandkids fish from the pond, take off on the four-wheelers and enjoy snowmobiling. She enjoyed cross-stitch embroidery, knitting and crocheting, many of her masterpieces decorate her home. Her greatest passion was playing cards and “skunking” everyone as she boasted and bragged of her winning. She made many friendships over the years with her Bridge Club ladies to whom they often ended their afternoons with their “boxed” wine and many laughs. She loved her get-togethers and always had a good time. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, and four siblings. She is survived by her husband Rock of 62 years, 3 children; Shawnda (Mike) Morrison, Parm Cowles (Kevin Haskins), and Cody (Camie) Cowles, 6 grandchildren; Tara, Joe, Kendra, Ryan, Brooklyn and Branson, 6 great-grandchildren; Bode, Pryce, Sophia, Bentley, Lilly, Hunter, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. As a wife, mother, “Nanny” and friend, she will be deeply and forever loved and missed by all who were blessed to have known her. May she Rest in Peace. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting contributions be made to the National Jewish Hospital in support of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
