Chapin, Betty Jean Curtis, age 91, died Sunday, May 16, 2010.
She was the widow of Lambert Chapin who preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Linda; two sons, David Mary and Casey; and grandchildren, Gregory and Timothy. The Huntington Woods resident was born March 17, 1919 in Illinois and lived her early life on a farm in Ohio. Farm life was tough early on, with no running water or indoor plumbing. Her own father, a university law professor, was also her teacher at the one room schoolhouse she attended as a child. Later she received a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and did post graduate work at the Merrill Palmer Institute in Detroit. Her primary focus while her children were young was on being a homemaker. However, she also involved herself extensively in community activities, including volunteer work at Beaumont Hospital; a docent at the Cranbrook Institute; an Elder in her church; and a volunteer at the Huntington Woods recreational center. The family wishes to thank Theresa Milton for her many years of loving care. We appreciate you making Mother's last years peaceful and comfortable. A memorial service for Betty Chapin will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak on Friday, May 21 at 11 a.m. Arrangements by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, Royal Oak, 248-541-7000.
