Betty Mae Van Amberg, age 84, a resident of Berkley since 1946, died December 22, 2012 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. She was born August 10, 1928 in Detroit to the late Edgar and Esther Coultas. Mrs. Van Amberg loved to bake and decorate cakes for everyone in the family and others. She loved to take walks and enjoyed watching the birds of many varieties in her back yard...her favorite was the cardinal in which she had a collection of cardinal items in her home. She also was a homemaker and a great mom who was always there for her kids before, during and after school. She was loved by all her family and extended family. In her later years, she did crossing guard for the schools with her husband and loved the interaction with the kids on their walks to and from school. She is survived by her husband, Dale A. Van Amberg; the couple married May 13, 1950 in Birmingham; sons, Dale H. Van Amberg, Lee A. Debbie Van Amberg and David G. Dawn Van Amberg; siblings, Patricia Sid Luxton, Fred Coultas, Mary Ann Spicer and Virginia Richard Pilecki; and seven grandchildren.
