BernaDean “Deanie” Helene (Hauge) Grendahl
June 30, 1936 – October 7, 2020
At the age of 84, Deanie (Hauge) Grendahl of Newcastle, Wyoming, died Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at the Weston County Manor. She passed peacefully after a long battle with cancer.
Deanie was born June 30, 1936, on the family farm in rural VanHook, North Dakota, to Harry and Anna (Barnec) Hauge. She was the third of six children. She married Minor Grendahl on June 8, 1952. They spent 51 years together and had four children: Doug, Terri, Myrna, and Keith. The family moved to Newcastle in 1969 where they enjoyed fishing and camping, especially at Keyhole Reservoir. Deanie was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church.
Deanie volunteered with both the church and the community, as well as with Meals on Wheels. She was an avid golfer, enjoying many days on the green with her friends as part of the Ladies Golf League. She enjoyed gardening and needlework, with many of her projects earning blue ribbons at the county fair. Deanie made frequent trips to Deadwood, and enjoyed most Friday’s at the senior center.
Most of all, Deanie loved spending time with her large family. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She created a strong foundation for future generations. She was joyful and caring, and always willing to hold the baby or cook up a meal. “We always give,” she’d say. Deanie gave everything for her family, friends, and community.
Deanie is greeted in Heaven by her husband, Minor Grendahl; daughter, Terri Wineteer; her father and mother, Harry and Anna Hauge; and siblings, Joyann Morin, Vonee Porteen, and AnnaMae Paulson.
Deanie’s memory is kept alive by her family: siblings, Keith (Raven) Hauge and Arlyss (Clint) Long; children, Doug and Keith (Kathleen) Grendahl and Myrna (Marvin) Booth; grandchildren, Blaine (Yesse), Luke (Heather), and Marshall (Julie) Newlin, Lesli and Rudy (Jennifer) Wineteer, Alison and Evan Grendahl; step-grandchildren, Jay (Carrie) Keith, Luke Booth, Julianne (Eric) Christensen, and Angela (Nick) Das; great-grandchildren, Allison, Maria, Megan, Dean, Rhys, Iris, Kiah, Anthony; step-great grandchildren, Adison, Alanis, Eli, Alexis, Kolten, Gabrielle; and so many friends and extended family members.
