Allan G. Hertler, age 86, a resident of Fox Run of Novi for the last nine years, formerly of Royal Oak and Bloomfield Township, passed away May 22, 2014. He was born June 1, 1927 in Ann Arbor to the late Rudolph and Hazel Hertler. Mr. Hertler was a proud World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan. He formerly was the Royal Oak assistant city attorney and then the city attorney until he retired. Upon his retirement, he opted to go into private practice. He also was a member of the Royal Oak Rotary and an avid reader in his spare time. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis R. Hertler; the couple married December 28, 1953 in Washington DC; loving father of Dr. Andrew Gisselle Hertler and the late Michael Hertler; dear brother of Janet Jonjack, the late David Hertler and Richard Hertler; proud grandfather of Matthew Hertler, Christopher Hertler, Megan Tristan Carrier, Nicolas Hertler, Sarah Hertler and David Hertler; and great grandfather of Amya. A memorial service will be held, Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Rice officiating. Light lunch at the Church following the memorial service. Inurnment to follow at the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association are appreciated.
