Alfred E. Barrett, age 87, a resident of Royal Oak, died February 22, 2010 at his home. He was born November 2, 1923 in Pontiac. Mr. Barrett was a World War II U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in the South Pacific. He was employed by Automotive Pattern Company in Detroit from 1947 until his retirement in 1982. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, whose love of carpentry let him build a house for his growing family. There was always room at his table for one more. His kindness, humor and generosity will be forever missed. He is survived by his children, John Daniel Mary Grace Barrett of Hilton Head, SC, Judith Robert Walters of Traverse City, Anne Charles Wilkinson of Dayton, ME, Martha Thomas Erwin of Royal Oak, Marjorie John Ferguson of Metairie, LA, Rebecca Alan Trenda of Royal Oak and Timothy Barrett of Portage; 22 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Barrett, on December 21, 1994; the couple married July 29, 1945 in Pontiac; and his son, Gregory Barrett on December 26, 1966. The visitation will be Wednesday 2-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. scripture service at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Mr. Barrett will lie in state Thursday 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 10 a.m. at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Royal Oak, with the Rev. John Christ officiating.
