Aleta Lohrey

Aleta M. Lohrey, age 104, a resident of Bark River, MI, formerly of Madison Heights, died August 14, 2012 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, MI. Aleta Warne was born in Cornwall, England on April 7, 1908 and moved with her family to Leadville, CO at the age of 4. She sailed on the ship "The St. Louis" four hours ahead of the "Titanic" and arrived at Ellis Island. Aleta and her family moved to the Detroit area where she met and married her husband, Clarence Lohrey, and raised their family. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and taking care of her family. In 2004 Aleta moved to Bark River to be closer to her family and resided there with her daughter and son-in-law. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Madison Heights and Bark River United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Clarence Lori Lohrey of Bark River and Joan Sherwood Taylor of Bark River; six grandchildren, Diane Rob Reeves of Sterling Heights, David Huffman of Bark River, Jason Lohrey of Lexington, Scott Stefanie Lohrey of Bark River, Bethany Lohrey of Bark River and Jennifer Lohrey of Bark River; three great grandchildren, Rachel, Adian and Carter; and best friend for 104 years, Ivy McAlister of St. Louis, MO. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, on July 2, 1992; and brothers, Alfred Warne and Albert Warne. The visitation will be Friday 3 p.m. until the time of the service 5:30 p.m. at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W Eleven Mile Road 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. Services officiated by Pastor Christine Bergquist of Bark River United Methodist Church. The burial will take place at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley.
