Walker, Alan Newton, age 79, born January 27, 1931, found eternal rest and grace with our Lord on May 15, 2010. Beloved husband of Yolanda Cantu. Dear father of Marshall Lucy, Angela Connor George, Monica Goodrich Paul and Mary. Proud grandfather of Marshall Jr., Grant, David, Sean, Maureen, Austin, Grace, George III and Alan. Alan will also be dearly missed by his sister Elaine and brother Richard, sisters-in-law Olga Cantu and Gloria Place Michael along with nieces, cousins and dear friends. Alan graduated from Michigan State University where he was on the fencing team and belonged to the R.O.T.C. program. Upon graduation he left to serve in Korea, where he developed his love for photography. He received his teaching degree from Wayne State University and taught in the Oak Park School District. Later he attended the University of Detroit, where he received his master's degree in English and became a doctoral candidate. Alan worked for 4 years as a park ranger in the Badland's National Park System. Alan also was an avid birder and found much pleasure in his garden where he thoughtfully planted to attract his feathered friends. Visitation Monday 1-8 p.m. with a scripture service on Monday at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W 11 Mile Rd. 4 blks. E of Woodward, Royal Oak. In state Tuesday 11:30 a.m. until time of Mass 12 noon at the National Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak. Memorials to American Heart Association appreciated.
